MSL - Monocoque Structural Laminate
The MSL process is recognized as the leading process in the inflatable board industry and is exclusive to Red Paddle Co. We are the only inflatable brand in the world that produces its boards in our private facility which means that no other board brand can approach the quality of Red Paddle. Let’s see why…
As pioneers of inflatable board at Sup, Red Paddle Co has developed a technology known as Monocoque Structural Laminate , or MSL, to produce the toughest, most durable and highest performance iSUP. While at the same time it saves weight by removing unnecessary layers of glue. This technology uses layers of horizontal multidirectional yarns that are between 2 layers of reinforced PVC. The interior is then layered on an extremely reinforced drop stitch, which provides a stable base to withstand the highest air pressures, to offer unparalleled rigidity and an excellent finish. Features such as heat-treated seams and quadruple tape complete the design and help provide airtight, waterproof seals.
The addition of MSL to the TecAir manufacturing process makes all our boards the most durable and rigid giving the rider the ultimate stand up paddleboarding experience.
So what are the benefits for rowers?
OPTICAL FEATURES – Our boards have an incredible finish on the outside without wrinkles, making their exterior look cleaner with a smoother feel to the touch.
FULL STICK WEIGHT SAVING – All Red Paddle Co inflatable boards are up to 2kg lighter than the traditional double layer drop stitch construction, without being extremely light. If a board is extremely light, it is more affected by wind and current while in the water. Inflatable boards with MSL technology have a slightly better feel in weight.
STRICT AT LOWER PRESSURES – Due to the MSL process, all Red Paddle Co inflatable boards are harder at low pressures compared to other boards on the market. We recommend a pressure of 16-22psi. Less bloating more rowing.
IMPROVED DURABILITY – Multiple layers on Red Paddle Co inflatable boards create incredible rigidity. The third generation of MSL technology makes them more durable than ever!
DURABILITY – Red Paddle Co inflatable boards are made to withstand even the most adverse conditions and will never disappoint you, giving you the freedom to explore any waterway.
Tec Air is not a product but a process. Focusing on the key areas of a typical process for the production of sup inflatable board, we were able to identify ways to improve the final result. Whether it is basic functions or details, no part of the design process is overlooked. The basic process is located on the inside of the board, our attention to detail on the inside ensures the best experience on the outside.
We use only the highest quality drop stich. Drop stitch is the name given to the material inside an inflatable board. Red Paddle Co boards are made using a specially made high density drop stitch that creates a stronger and harder core to achieve complete rigidity. Take a look at the outside of a Red Paddle Co board, you will see thousands of dimples spread across the entire surface of the board. Each dimple represents an inner thread. We do not use Linear drop stitch, which is mass-produced, cheap material that can not withstand high pressure like most companies out there. The boards that use Linear drop stich, can be identified by taking a look at the holes that each board has on the outside.
In the beginning we use a machine to weave the inner core of the board. Then we cover the woven surface with a layer that seals the core airtight to receive the second layer in the next step of the process. Then connect the outside, the wings and the rest of the board.
